How to Protect Natural Gas Equipment from Wintry Weather
Wintry storms bring with it the potential for snow and ice to accumulate on natural gas equipment. Instruments such as meters, regulators, and vents are designed to stand up against virtually all kinds of weather. However, abnormal build-up of snow and ice in some cases may cause potential operational problems. While these type occurrences are very rare, in the event of severe inclement weather excess snow and ice should be carefully removed from natural gas equipment and appliance exhaust vents.
Gas companies recommend gently using a broom to remove the snow away from the equipment and appliance exhaust vents. Avoid using your hand, a shovel, or other metal objects in order to prevent damage to the equipment or to yourself. This will help your equipment to function properly in keeping your home warm and avoid problems caused by the inclement weather.
